| ERIC A. JOHNSON FRENCH TO ENGLISH TRANSLATION
BUSINESS TERMS PRIVACY - I respect my customers' needs for confidentiality. RATES AND AVAILABILITY - Standard rates are negotiable. Below are some of the factors involved in establishing effective rates for my services. WORK FLOW - I follow a first-in first-out policy in accepting and scheduling my work. I often work on several assignments in the same time frame. For large projects I like to plan my schedule in advance. I prefer to have at least 24 hours pre-notice before the start of any new assingnment. I can usually do short projects lasting one day or less with little or no advance notice. Requests for fast turn-around or special treatment may involve payment of a rush premium in addition to the usual rate. TRANSLATION - Translation is usually paid according to the source word count. If the source document is a hard copy, fax document, or graphic otherwise cannot be made into a text document, then the target word count is used, and the larget word rate applies. EDITING - Translation editing is paid by the hour based on an estimated 1,000 words per hour. This is a standard way to estimate editing time. The time it takes to edit a document depends on the quality of the translation to be edited. If the translation is poor or mediocre in quality, then the editing may take longer than normal. There is sometimes no way to know in advance how long an edit job will take. Copy editing for marketing materials takes longer to edit than documents with blocks of text. TERMINOLOGY - When a source document contains specialized terms, or when a client requires consistent use of specific terms and style throughout a large document, extra payable time may be required to conduct the necessary research for the terms. NO SUBCONTRACTING - The translations I provide to my customers are my own. If I ever need to subcontract, I will inform my customers in advance. OTHER FACTORS - The required use of special tools such as software, special reference materials, glossaries, etc. may require additional hourly fees. RUSH PREMIUM - When customers require translation services with little pre-notice, a fast around time, week-end work, or other wise require me to postpone other work, a rush premium of 20% to 50% or more of my standard rate applies. REVIEW AND REVISIONS - I strive to provide the best possible translation services. I am neither a medical doctor, research scientist, attorney, economist, accountant or other professional. I expect my clients to review or have my work reviewed by professional specialists prior to publication or any intended use. I will gladly make reasonable review changes or minor improvments to my work, or correct obvious mistakes and omissions, when requested, free of charge, within 7 days of delivery, if such requests are not for updates or additional source material, or to incorporate client reference materials that should have been available at the start of a project. Even the most experienced translators sometimes overlook a detail or misunderstand a passage in a document. My maximum liability extends to the value of the work product rendered, reflected in my rates, invoices or honoraria, and does not include any consequences or liabilities related to the client's use of the product which constitutes final acceptance of my work.
